Analysis on Prediction Accuracy
of Localized Heavy Rain

What is Localized
Heavy Rain?

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, localized heavy rain refers to torrential rain that falls intensively over a narrow area.

Localized heavy rain primarily occurs during the summer. When cold air in the upper atmosphere meets hot air from the surface, the temperature rises, increasing the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere. Due to this unstable atmosphere, small rain clouds form rapidly, causing heavy rain.

Because a large amount of rain falls suddenly within a short period, it causes serious damage such as flooding, landslides, and traffic accidents.
